A 32-year-old East Helena man accused of killing a married couple in a June wreck will change his plea on two felony counts of vehicular homicide while under the influence.

At a time set for a pretrial conference Wednesday morning, attorneys for Travis E. Fuqua, who pleaded not guilty in July, asked that the trial set for Dec. 9 be canceled. A change-of-plea hearing has been slated for Jan. 6.

Fuqua allegedly drove drunk on U.S. Highway 12 on June 24 and crashed into a motorcycle carrying Karl and Charmon Pentecost, who died when they collided head-on with Fuqua’s pickup truck east of East Helena. According to court documents, Fuqua was attempting to make a left turn onto Spokane Creek Road and failed to see the westbound motorcycle.

The Pentecosts had two boys, 2 and 6.

While released on bail in October, Fuqua was arrested on a charge of driving under the influence of alcohol after he crashed his girlfriend’s car into a ditch. That charge is pending in Boulder City Court.

Fuqua remains jailed on the city court DUI and in lieu of a $300,000 bond for the vehicular homicide charges, as requested by the prosecution Wednesday.
