Rick Blessinger, 64, of Helena, passed away April 29, 2009, at St. Peter's Hospital after a short but courageous battle with prostate cancer.

Rick was born Oct. 8, 1944, to Phil and Betty (DeBorde) Blessinger in Helena. Rick grew up in Boise, Idaho, and Helena. He graduated from Cathedral High in 1962 and from Montana State University in 1968 with a degree in business administration.

In 1978, he purchased Construction Specialties, Inc. from his father and made the company one of the largest concrete molding manufacturers in the United States. He owned the company for over 25 years.

In 2004, he sold his company and retired to spend his time golfing in Mesquite, Nev., with his wife, Carol.

Rick always believed if you had the means, you should give back to the community. He has played a major role in the success of the Carroll College Athletic Department for many years. Rick and John Betts, together with coach Petrino, founded the Carroll College Century Club (today known as the Saints Athletic Association). He was on the Board of Directors for 12 years and served as the president for two (1991-93) years. Under Rick's guidance, the Century Club enjoyed some of its most successful years.

In 2007, Carroll College awarded Rick the Warren L. Nelson Award, which recognizes individuals who have exemplified the unselfish goodness of Mr. Nelson in assisting, promoting and otherwise supporting Carroll activities.

Not only has Rick supported Carroll and Saints Athletics, he has also been a leader in the Helena community. He is a past president of both the Helena and Yellowstone District Exchange Clubs and also served on the Board of Directors for Big Brothers Big Sisters of Helena and Pads for Paws. Rick was a founding member of Mountain West Bank and he has served on the Board of Directors. He has given much of his time and energy to many charitable organizations.

Rick is survived by his loving wife, Carol; daughter, Amanda Thumma; son-in-law, Brent Thumma; grandson, Reese Dillon Thumma; sister, Linda Blessinger; uncle, Irv Blessinger; aunt, Lorraine Webster; many cousins; and numerous friends.

Services will be conducted at 1 p.m. on Saturday, May 2, at St. Paul's United Methodist Church with interment to follow the service at Resurrection Cemetery.

Everyone is invited for a gathering to be held at the Carroll College Stadium on the second floor immediately following the interment.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be sent to the Carroll College Athletic Department, 1601 N. Benton Ave., Helena, MT 59625; Melody House, 102 Humboldt Loop, Helena, MT 59601; or the donor's choice.
