Brent Everett Hicks, 54, of Helena, sadly passed away Thursday, July 16, 2009. He had been battling esophageal cancer for some time, and died at Community Medical Hospital in Missoula.

Brent was born Feb. 13, 1955 in Idaho Falls, Idaho, to Gerald and Marjorie Hicks. He grew up in Idaho until he moved to Livingston, where he attended high school at Park High. After that he went to work for Brand S Lumber Yard for the next 20 years. In 1985 he married Susanne Dunn of Livingston. They were together for the next 13 years, and in 1990 they had a baby girl, Kassandra (19). In 1997, Brent moved to Helena where for a short time he worked for UPS and Falcon Books until 2001 when he then worked for Boyd Andrew prerelease center for the next eight years.

He loved to spend his free time outdoors and in the country. Some of his favorite activities included camping, hunting, fishing, and training his bird dogs. He also enjoyed playing sports such as softball and was on a bowling league for quite some time. Brent took up a major interest in Native American culture and loved learning about Montana history. Also he was very involved in Alcoholics Anonymous and enjoyed being able to help people learn about the program. He was always happiest spending time with his daughter and other loved ones.

Brent is survived by daughter, Kassandra (Kassey) Hicks; brothers Glenn (Carol) Hicks of Billings, Brad (Nikki) Hicks of Livingston, Garry (Karen) and Scott (Linda) Hicks, both of Helena; sister, Holly (Jim) Dorsey of Boise, Idaho; and several nieces and nephews.

Brent Hicks touched the lives of many people. He was a beautiful person who is very loved and will be greatly missed.

Services will be held on Monday, July 20, 2009 at 2 p.m. at Hagler-Anderson Chapel. It will be a small memorial service. Memorials in Brent's name are suggested to Guardian Oncology and Center for Wellness, 2835 Fort Missoula Road, Suite 301, Missoula, MT 59801.
