Thumbs up for cemetery resurrection

Thumbs up for another chance to resurrect the Elkhorn Cemetery.

Rep. Denny Rehberg has picked up a previously failed effort to convey the property from the U.S. Forest Service to Jefferson County so it once again can be used. His bill would correct what Rehberg called "an unfortunate survey error."

Thumbs down to the seemingly unending lack of money and facilities to property treat mentally ill people in the states jails and prisons. Lawmakers were told this week that law enforcement has become the mental-health treatment of last resort in the state, forcing them to deal with behaviors that might not have occurred if there were adequate treatment outside the criminal-justice system.

Thumbs up to a nifty addition to Helena's airport -- a display of colorful John Reddy photographs of Helena-area scenery and architecture. Reddy proposed the idea after seeing a similar display in the Salt Lake City Airport.

Thumbs down to some premature motoring. Although the South Hills Interstate 15 interchange won't be open for another month, engineering project manager Jack Carlson said people are constantly moving barricades and using the unfinished roads -- a dangerous (and illegal) practice because they could run into construction equipment, uncovered manholes and other possible threats.
