Thumbs up to a bill by Rep. Jill Cohenour, D-East Helena, that would crack down on "lost" game tags. It seems the number of replacement tags has been rising significantly in recent years, raising suspicions that hunters are using the ruse to illegally shoot more game. The bill would allow regulators to increase the cost of replacements and make the procedure more difficult.

Thumbs down to the unfortunate eagle that misjudged a Helena man's vehicle on I-90 last week and crashed through his windshield, nearly hitting the driver's head. We're sorry the eagle died from its injuries, but we're glad the shock didn't give the poor man a heart attack.

Thumbs up to another record for Montana's unemployment rate. In November, the rate dropped to 2.8 percent, down from 3.6 percent in October and an all-time low. The state Department of Labor and Industry said the tight labor market also is causing wages to rise more quickly since 2005.

Thumbs down to a snafu in which a Montana State University student working in the school's loan office sent eight students a sheet containing the names and social security numbers of about 30 other students. (The eight students' names were highlighted on the sheets.) MSU has apologized to each of the 259 students affected.
