Gov's flights

Lately the governor has bombarded us as to how much he cares for the state of Montana. For instance, he is the first governor since Forest Anderson to not meet weekly with the legislative leaders while they were in session. He spent more time outside of Montana during the legislative session than any governor in history. If you are concerned where and what the governor is doing, look at two sites. His campaign site, which shows his recent press reviews, all from OUT of state. The other is a site that will track any aircraft in the nation. You may link to the site at http://flightaware.com/. Just enter the tail number of his state supplied aircraft, which is N28KP. You may also have the site alert you by e-mail whenever his aircraft takes off. You will get a kick out of the March 2 of this year from Helena to Great Falls. A grand total of 12 minutes on the ground before a return to Helena. Those pesky trips are just plain necessary, but we have a heck of a surplus. You will be surprised to find he in the air almost more than on the ground.

No compassion

As I watched to fireworks display on the 4th of July, the following quote came to mind: "Give me your tired, your poor, your huddled masses yearning to breathe free, the wretched refuse of your teeming shore. Send these, the homeless, tempest-tossed, to me: I lift my lamp beside the golden door." This is etched into the Statue of Liberty. My fellow Americans, who sing praise for freedom while at the same time want fences built to keep others out, are hypocrites! When did the compassion for others become anti-American? Most of us have ancestors who came to America for the same better life than those who come now. This brings great sadness to me.

Where are

the parents?

A police officer rang our doorbell at 6 a.m. today, July 5, to let us know that two tires on my husband's SUV had been slashed. This was troubling enough but then we found out that about 30 more cars in the Hauser and University Street area had suffered the same fate. We had stayed up until 11:45 p.m. to watch the fireworks from our front porch, so it must have happened some time after. "Pranks" like this are disgusting and cowardly acts, and we sincerely hope the perpetrators will be caught. Where are the parents in all this? They should be made to reimburse us and all the other car owners for having to replace their tires. We had to buy a set of four to the tune of almost $500.

Shakespeare

in the Parks

Start making plans to spend two wonderful evenings enjoying the free performances of Shakespeare in the Parks on the lawn at Anchor Park by the library. The first performance on July 30 will be "Merry Wives of Windsor" followed by George Bernard Shaw's "Heartbreak House" on July 31. The plays start at 6:30 p.m. and last about two hours. We'll go indoors to the Helena Middle School Auditorium only if it rains. These are the only dates that Shakespeare in the Parks will be performing in Helena. The plays are performed by professional actors and actresses, and are free and open to the public due to the generosity of businesses and individuals who respond to our fundraising efforts. There will be an opportunity to donate at the performances, so bring your extra change, a picnic dinner and something to drink. Don't forget your hat and a friend, too. See you at Helena's Shakespeare in the Parks on July 30-31; and thank you, Helena, for all the support you give.

Second-class citizens

As to Libby's Get Out of Jail Free Card recently played by Mr. Bush. I thought that "If you can't do the time, don't do the crime" was a GOP mantra. I guess that is for you and I, "resources" for the Bush America; not for "Citizens" of the Bush America.
