Now that our governor has signed HB 531 stopping cameras from being used for ticketing traffic offenders, it is time that we demand that the city authorities remove the cameras that presently adorn every traffic-control light pole within Helena. Since they cannot be used for ticketing people the only other possible reason to continue their existence is for spying upon local citizens.

Schweitzer was quite right when he said, upon signing HB 531, "I think the citizens deserve some personal liberties and I agree with the Legislature. I don't think Montanans want a bunch of cameras looking at them."

Citizens, look up! They do exist. Just because Helena authorities haven't publicly stated anything about their existence doesn't mean that the cameras aren't there. They were put up without our approval. They are nothing but an invasion of our privacy. Let's get rid of them.
