My first vote was cast in 1972 and I pulled the lever for McGovern. Not long after, I realized that the party of JFK had drastically changed. I no longer had anything in common with the Democratic Party and have voted Republican ever since. On practically every issue in succeeding years, the Democratic leadership has gone beyond tolerance to the point of adopting every far-left creed. Surely they couldn't go any farther?
During the last election cycle, the DNC's convention platform included the phrase "abortion should be safe, legal and rare." Flash forward to 2008 and the plank now reads "The Democratic Party strongly and unequivocally supports Roe v. Wade and a woman's right to choose a safe and legal abortion, regardless of ability to pay, and we oppose any and all efforts to weaken or undermine that right." I'm sure Barack Obama feels better about his three votes to allow doctors to murder infants who are born alive during an abortion.
Whatever you might have left in common with the Democratic party, is it really enough to keep you there? If you're pro-life (and I know many of you are), those in power don't have room for you.
