Amazingly, anti-choice Republicans have the strength of conviction to hold a press conference decrying abortion while simultaneously they refuse to work on real solutions to prevent unintended pregnancy like sex education and affordable health care for all Montana's women, families, and children.
Unfortunately, the people who don't trust women to make the right decisions for their families refuse to address prevention. Not only do anti-choice legislators categorically oppose comprehensive sex education and affordable contraception, they oppose unding CHIP, increasing public education funding and Earned Income Tax Credits for low-income families. These "champions for the unborn" care too much about the private lives of pregnant women and too little for the children and families struggling to survive.
These extremists disregard the systemic health care, education, sexual violence and poverty problems at the root of unintended pregnancy, and do nothing to help children in poverty or couples responsibly planning their families. Anti-choice legislators focus solely on weakening Montanans' rights and allowing the government into the bedrooms and exam rooms of women and families.
This is the dangerous hypocrisy of the anti-choice agenda, and its consequences are disastrous. Montana can do better, and we demand our elected officials do the same.
