Freedom and inequality

From the Democratic Party's perspective, the danger of freedom is inequality. Freedom allows people to be as successful as their passion, hard work, intelligence, family and social support and luck will allow. Unfortunately, we are not equally passionate, hard working, intelligent, supported or lucky. As a result, some will succeed more than others. From the Democratic Party's perspective, the distance between the successful and the relatively unsuccessful is immoral; the greater the distance the greater the immortality. C.S. Lewis in his book, "The Abolition of Law," cautions against elevating the importance of one individual moral law above other moral laws. In the case of Nazism, Hitler elevated the respect for racial purity above that of human rights. In the Democratic Party's case, the Democrats elevate the need for equal rights above the need for individual freedom. Ayn Rand, in her book "Altas Shrugged," presented a remarkably disastrous fictional account of what can happen when equality is more important then freedom. The Democrats are mistaken. Inequality is neither moral nor immoral. It is amoral. It is the byproduct of free people doing and living by choice.

Freedom is scary because it allows me to be as successful as I exercise my will to be; however it ultimately depends on me. The Democratic Party often depicts American success stories as immoral acts. Thomas Sowell, a fellow at Stanford's Hoover Institution, has said: "When faced with the opportunity to hate someone else for being successful or hating myself, it is always easier to hate someone else."

America used to be a shiny example of freedom. However, the theoretical effiency of socialism has seduced us away from our unconditional defense of freedom. Now that the cat is out of the bag, someone will be the shining example of freedom in this world. The question now is whether it will continue to be America.
