Out of concern and curiosity, I'm wondering if cyclists on Montana roads are aware of the fact that bicycling laws are in effect here. Due to the newly established frontage road (Colonial Drive to South Hills Road) and surrounding areas, the number of cyclists has increased, however seemingly with no knowledge of the fact that there are laws in effect.
As a motorist, I have witnessed on numerous occasions riders running right through stop signs without giving them as much as a glance. This is disconcerting, since I could easily have run right over them, if I had not been watching to see what they would do once they reached their approaching stop sign. Given the progressing driving climate in the Helena area, and tossing in the number of recent road related deaths I would assume these recreationalists would want to take more caution.
Being one of many frustrated motorists, I have included the following Web site. Please note: The very first comment on the very first page states, ";Sharing the Road: Responsibilities and Laws for Cyclists: Obey all traffic rules, signals and signs. Operate a bicycle as you would any other vehicle."
