Some of us are old enough to remember Norman Mattoon Thomas running for president. He was the leading American socialist, pacifist and six-time presidential candidate for the Socialist Party of America. In a 1944 spech he said: "The American people will never knowingly adopt socialism. But, under the name of "liberalism," they will adopt every fragment of the socialist program, until one day America will be a socialist nation, without knowing how it happened." He went on to say: "I no longer need to to run as presidential candidate for the Socialist Party. The Democratic Party has adopted our platform."

Note: Thomas was also co-founder of the ACLU. During the 1956 presidential campaign. Thomas, on national television, announced, "The Socialist Party will no longer be running a candidate for president. The Democratic Party is leading this country to socialism much faster than we could ever hope to." He died in 1968 and the Socialist Party had all but merged with the Democratic Party -- most of the Socialist delegates were in the 1968 Democratic Convention. Take a look at what the Obama administration has done since they have taken over.
