HELENA (AP) -- Veteran newspaperman Sam Gilluly and forester and conservationist Arnold Bolle will be inducted in April into the Gallery of Outstanding Montanans in the halls of the state Capitol.

Paying tribute to Montanans who have helped to define and shape the state is an important act of remembrance, said Montana Historical Society Director Richard Sims.

The inductees were chosen by a five-member selection committee made up of representatives from the Montana Heritage Commission, Montana State University-Billings, The O'Connor Center for the Rocky Mountain West at the University of Montana, the Capitol Restoration Foundation and the Montana Historical Society.

Gilluly, 1908-1984, was a Billings native, an influential journalist and editor of the Glasgow Courier for 28 years. In addition to his newspaper career, he wrote a history of the state's newspapers and served as director of the Montana Historical Society for seven years.

Bolle, 1912-1994, was a longtime professor and dean of the School of Forestry at the University of Montana. An avid conservationist, Bolle played an instrumental role in redirecting U.S. Forest Service policy during the last quarter of the 20th Century.

Gilluly and Bolle will be inducted into the Gallery of Outstanding Montanans on April 11 at 2 p.m. in a public ceremony in the Capitol Rotunda.
