The race for Montana secretary of state will pit Democrat Linda McCulloch against Republican incumbent Brad Johnson, both unopposed in the state's primary election Tuesday.

Johnson is seeking a second term as secretary. McCulloch is near the end of her second term as state school superintendent. Term limits prevent her from seeking re-election.

The secretary of state is paid about $79,000 a year to serve as Montana's chief elections officer and oversee the state Business Services Division.

The Constitution Party's Seiglinde Sharbono of Stevensville also filed as a candidate for the position.

Republican Duane Grimes of Clancy and Democrat Monica Lindeen of Huntley will face off in the November election for state auditor. Grimes and Lindeen ran unopposed for their parties' nominations Tuesday in Montana's primary election.

They will vie to succeed Democrat John Morrison, who is ineligible to seek re-election because of term limits.

The state auditor regulates the securities and insurance industries in Montana, and is paid about $79,000 a year.

Grimes is a businessman who ran against Morrison in 2004. Lindeen established an Internet service business and ran for the U.S. House in 2006, losing to Republican Denny Rehberg.
