BUTTE (AP) -- Backers of a proposed $1.8 billion casino and entertainment complex here said they plan to pitch their plan again, even though the 2003 Legislature nixed wide-open gambling for the project.
''The next time we do this, it has to be done absolutely right, and that takes planning," said developer Barrett Singer.
Critics of the measure said that Foxx Industries, the Las Vegas-based group pushing the measure, lacked financial details on one of the largest projects ever proposed in the state.
Singer said he plans to go back to state officials in 2005, seeking approval for the gambling that he says is needed to make the project work.
''This is such an important project for Butte and Montana and our partners," Singer said. ''And we're committed to seeing this happen."
