YELLOWSTONE NATIONAL PARK (AP) -- Applications are being accepted from companies that want to provide guided snowmobile tours in the park.
Previous snowmobile guides must also apply to be considered.
Snowmobile guides are encouraged to provide a variety of services including shuttle rides, freight hauling, towing of vehicles that break down and access for the disabled, park officials said Monday.
All existing snowmobile concessionaires provide such services.
The guided snowmobiling proposal falls under the guidelines of a March 25 record of decision for winter use of Yellowstone and Grand Teton parks.
Under that plan, 80 percent of snowmobile access must be commercially guided starting this winter, and snowmobiles used by commercial tours must make use of the best available technology.
A prospectus for the applicants describes daily limits, requirements for guides and services, terms and conditions of the contract, and instructions for completing proposals.
Copies can be obtained by contacting the park's Business Management Office at (307) 344-2271. Each application will cost $35 to cover administrative and printing costs.
