KALISPELL -- According to a report just released by the Federal Election Commission showing presidential campaign financial information for 2007, Montanans clearly voted for Ron Paul with their wallets.

Paul received more campaign contributions from Montana in 2007 than any other presidential candidate, Republican or Democrat.

Paul's donations in 2007 totaled $88,883, double those of the nearest Republican, Mitt Romney, who received $41,495. Sen. John McCain came in third at $29,094, followed by Mike Huckabee with $8,816.

Paul's donations aren't being given by corporate financing, but by individual donors through grassroots efforts. Nationwide, the majority of Paul's donations were under $200, and he ended the fourth quarter with more cash on hand than any other remaining Republican candidate.

David Hart, state coordinator for Paul's campaign in Montana, said, "Paul's success in fundraising stands in stark contrast to who the media says are our 'top tier' candidates."

A search of the FEC database revealed that Paul has received 1,160 donations from military donors -- more than McCain, Romney and Huckabee combined.

Hart said that Paul, an Air Force veteran of the Vietnam era, has fought hard for veterans and veterans care.

He added: "Congressman Paul's strict adherence to the Constitution also separates him from the field of candidates. Ron Paul is clearly Montana's choice for president, and nothing shows that more than people voting with their hard-earned cash."
