Arsenal U-12 Gold Cyclones win two
The Helena Arsenal U-12 Girls (Gold Cyclones) continued their soccer season Saturday in Great Falls by topping the Great Falls T-Bolts 2-1 and the Missoula Strikers 4-1.
The Gold Cyclones exhibited outstanding ball control and kept the heat on the opposing defenses in both games. Goals were tallied by Addy Shull (2), Chelsea Skoog, Briann Hicks, Jessica Alles and Patricia Martin. Ally Sather contributed effective midfield play to help spark the attack.
In addition, the Gold Cyclones played tough pressure defense, repeatedly denying the opposition's attack before a shot on goal was attempted.
The team's defensive efforts were anchored by Nicole Sparks, Alice Butler, Hannah Joki, Hannah Haas and goalkeeper Kayla Damuth.
The Gold Cyclones are now 5-5-2 on the season and continue their season May 16-17 in Coeur d'Alene at the Bill Eisenwinter Hotshots Tournament.
Arsenal U-15 boys have a winning weekend
The Helena Arsenal U-15 boys traveled to Great Falls on Saturday for two games, winning the first against Butte 5-0 before beating the Electric City Thunderbolts 4-1.
In the first game against Butte, Caleb Sparks, Cody Jones, Brian Sandvig, Dylan Allen and Jake Kreamer all scored for Helena.
Both Dylan Hills and Matt Thomas had some nice shots on goal. The defense of Sean Rudolf, Mac Nelson, Sandvig, Andy Anderson, and Hills stopped Butte's offense.
In the second game, the Arsenal boys came out ready to own the game with Ben George scoring the first two goals. The Thunderbolts scored one goal in the second half but that was answered quickly by Allen with a nice goal and Sparks scored a fourth to secure the win.
Helena heads to Coeur d'Alene, Idaho, for the Hot Shot Tournament this weekend.
Arsenal U-14 Girls win one, tie one
The Helena Arsenal U-14 girls (Lockwood) traveled to Kalispell on Saturday to play two league opponents.
Arsenal faced FC Missoula in an evenly played first match that ended in a 1-1 draw. Jaimee Hulst scored the Arsenal goal on an assist by Halstyn Stief. Arsenal recorded eight shots on goal in the match with Kelsey Wadsworth, Terah Cundith, Haley Stalnaker, Emily Eicholtz, Bradie Austin and Jesse Darlington providing the pressure on the opponent's goal.
In their second match, Arsenal defeated the Flathead Force by the score of 2-0. Savannah Smith and Hulst each netted goals for Arsenal with Jenny Waddell providing an assist. Quinci Robertson and Stief preserved the shutout in goal behind strong defensive play by Carly Damuth, Ashley Wiensch, Cassidy Wong, Mariah Garza, Ashlin Deaton and Shelby Pugh.
Arsenal is 4-5-1 on the season and will travel to Billings this weekend to close out their regular season schedule.
Arsenal U-11 boys tie, win at home
The Arsenal U-11 Blue played Ravalli United U-11 SC to a 2-2 draw last Saturday for their fourth tie of the season. In their second game, the Blues broke into the win column for the first time with a decisive 4-1 victory over a spirited U-11 Arsenal White.
The first match featured stubborn defensive efforts from Bernard Kintzing, Gregor Matheson, Levi Hill, John Etchard, and Jacob Ries-Roncalli. Ravalli United's first period score was answered promptly by Matt Turnbo, while Lucas Ballantyne scored the tying goal, midway through the final stanza.
In their second match, the Blues sputtering offense came on strong with an early goal from James Starke and a three-goal performance from Tobin Haefele. Throughout the two matches, the Blues received standout performances from goalkeepers Nate Cummings, Jacob Ries-Roncalli, John Etchard and Matt Turnbo.
The U-11 Blues travel to Idaho next weekend, where they'll play in Coeur d'Alene's annual Hotshot tournament.
Arsenal U-12 Boys Blue split road matches
The Helena Arsenal U-12 Boys Blue soccer team split two matches at the Siebel Soccer Complex in Great Falls on Saturday May 9.
During the morning game, the Renegades maintained a 1-0 lead for much of the first half on a strike by Will Hunthausen, before allowing Electric City to build a 4-1 lead. Arsenal surged back in the second half on goals by Jeremy Reynolds and Hunthausen, but ultimately fell to the Thunderbolts 6-3.
The afternoon match against Belgrade featured exceptional possession and attacking play from Arsenal, resulting in a 7-4 victory for the Renegades. Goals were scored by Hunthausen (3), Reynolds, Lucas Kreamer, Eli Walker, and Aidan Cormier. The Helena defense and midfield was anchored by Connor Whyte, Andrew Dowling, Logan Davis and Cole Peterson, with Dillon Monday and Denis Karasev sharing time in the Arsenal goal. The Renegades travel to Billings next weekend to face Magic City and Bozeman.
