BILLINGS -- Athletes from Eastern Oregon swept the Frontier Conference football player-of-the-week awards.
Quarterback Chris Ware, defensive end Kyle Witty and kicker/punter Thomas Akers were honored.
Ware, a freshman from Rainier, Ore., passed for 191 yards and three touchdowns in Eastern Oregon's 41-38 overtime win over Montana Western. He also rushed for 94 yards and a touchdown. His third touchdown pass tied the game and sent it to overtime.
Witt, a sophomore from La Grande, Ore., had six solo tackles, four assisted tackles, four tackles for loss and three sacks.
Akers, a senior from Vancouver, Wash., kicked a game-winning 20-yard field goal in overtime.
Big Sky announces players of week
Athletes from Weber State and Portland State have been named the Big Sky Conference football players of the week.
Weber State running back Trevyn Smith won the offensive award while teammate Beau Hadley, a safety, won the defensive award. Portland State kicker/punter Danny Urrego earned special teams honors.
Smith, a junior from Springville, Utah, rushed for 103 yards and scored three touchdowns in No. 16 Weber State's 42-14 win at No. 16 Northern Arizona.
Hadley, a junior from Taylor, Utah, tallied 11 total tackles, two forced fumbles and a fumble recovery in Weber State's win at NAU. Both of his forced fumbles led to Wildcat scores.
Urrego, a senior from Fort Lauderdale, Fla., made three field goals and three extra points in Portland State's 36-13 victory over Idaho State. He also averaged 35.5 yards in two punts.
