Capital High standout athlete Ben Ternes has signed a letter of intent to join the Carroll College golf team this upcoming fall, Saints head coach Bennett MacIntyre announced on Tuesday.
The two-time Capital High team MVP took second place this past year at the Montana AA golf tournament, shooting a 1-under-par 141 at the Green Meadow Country Club, earning all-state golf honors.
He was also a second-team all-state basketball player his senior year.
"Ben is the type of athlete who will put in the extra time to practice," MacIntyre said. "When you have people like that who are driven in your program, it makes everyone else better."
Ben is expected to come in and play right away for the Saints ,who should have some depth heading into next season. Carroll returns four starters from a team that finished in fourth place in the Frontier Conference.
Carroll freshman Jim Mee was named second team all-conference in 2009 and led the way for the Saints with a 74.1 stroke average. He'll have some friendly competition with the addition of Ternes.
"Ben has the ability to not only be a consistent scorer for our team, but has the ability to go low. Next year is going to be a lot of fun watching our team compete," MacIntyre said.
Ben is the son of Mary and Dave Ternes and carries a 3.4 GPA.
