The state's Class AA golf teams, including Helena and Capital, plan to gauge their levels of play when they meet today and Friday in the Butte Invitational.

The tournament begins today at the Old Works Golf Club, recently voted as the state's best, and concludes Friday at the Butte Country Club.

Helena heads to the tourney a week after posting its best team scores at the Crosstown match with Capital.

"We gained a lot of confidence and optimism from the Crosstown," Helena coach Bob Tipton said. "But, now it's time to get back on the road and see where we stand."

Both Glacier and Billings West are set to compete in the boys tourney, while consistently strong Bozeman is among the girls teams.

Capital's Ben Ternes, with a lifetime best of 68, is among the top boys competitors, while Amanda Roberts, who shot 83 last week, and Helena's Abby Hunthausen, who shot 84, are among the top girls.
