Great Falls schools name three coaches

GREAT FALLS (AP) -- The Great Falls School District has filled three head coaching jobs, according to athletics director Gary DeGooyer.

Kelly Lindseth takes over the volleyball program at Great Falls Russell. Lindseth is a 1977 graduate of Montana State University and assisted Great Falls High coach Bud Talbot during the 1998-99 seasons. She replaces Paula Olson, who resigned after the 2008 season.

Jeff Panik will coach the boys soccer team at Great Falls High, taking over for Eric Dunn. Panik has been an assistant coach at the University of Great Falls and has coached youth teams in Great Falls. He graduated from Ohio's Walsh University in 2004.

Chad Sunchild will coach boys and girls golf at Great Falls High, succeeding Jerry Kuntz, who retired. Sunchild has coached basketball in Great Falls, Box Elder and Cascade and is a physical education teacher. He graduated from Montana State University-Northern in 1995.

U of M women's tennis falls to NAU

The University of Montana women's tennis team fell to Northern Arizona, 6-1, at the neutral site in Bozeman on Saturday.

This was the Grizzlies' lone match of the weekend before rounding out the regular season schedule with two more matches against Idaho State and Weber State in Bozeman next weekend.

Montana fell to 6-12 on the season and is now tied with the Wildcats' season standings of 2-4 in Big Sky play. The Wildcats defeated the Bengals (0-14, 0-6 BSC) on Thursday, April 9, in Pocatello, Idaho.

The top six teams from regular-season standings will advance to the Big Sky Conference championships to be held at the Gold River Racquet Club in Gold River, Calif., Friday through Sunday, April 24-26.

Northern Arizona earned the doubles point after claiming all three of the doubles contests.

The singles contests were hard fought. The Lumberjacks were victorious in five of the six singles contests.

Senior Liz Walker was the lone Griz to earn a point over NAU. At No. 1 singles, Walker downed Lumberjack Edit Suhajda, 3-6, 6-2, 10-6, to improve her record to 12-7, 5-2 in Big Sky matches.

At the No. 2 slot, sophomore Rebecca Bran lost to Kim Van Ginkel in a tough three-setter, 6-7(14), 6-4, 10-3. Sophomore Kayla Moyse also lost after a close three-set match to Stacey Penchbeck, 3-6, 6-0, 7-6(1).
