Deng leaves with sprained ankle
MIAMI -- Chicago forward Luol Deng left the Bulls' game against the Miami Heat on Friday after spraining his left ankle while attempting to grab a rebound.
The Bulls said he would not return.
Deng landed awkwardly with 7:52 left in the third quarter, tumbled to the floor and grabbed the area just below his left knee. He was eventually helped off, while putting no weight on that leg, and immediately hobbled into the Bulls' locker room.
Including Friday, Deng is averaging 13.3 points in 26 games for the Bulls.
Army hires Cal Poly's Ellerson as coach
WEST POINT, N.Y. (AP) -- Army filled its football coaching vacancy by heeding a core West Point value: History matters.
Rich Ellerson grew up around Black Knights football and is leaving his coaching job at Cal Poly to come to a place he knows well. His father and two brothers graduated from the U.S. Military Academy, where brother John led the 1962 team to a 6-4 record. And he's worked before with former Army coaches known for running successful schemes on both sides of the ball.
Ellerson replaces Stan Brock, who was fired Dec. 12 after a pair of 3-9 seasons. This season ended with a 34-0 loss to Navy. Brock, a former New Orleans Saints offensive lineman, was Army's offensive line coach for three years before replacing Bobby Ross in early 2007.

US beats Germany 8-2 in world juniors opener
OTTAWA (AP) -- James van Riemsdyk and Drayson Bowman scored two goals each for the United States, who opened the world junior hockey championship with an 8-2 rout of Germany on Friday.
Minnesota's Jordan Schroeder had a goal and three assists, and Colin White of Boston University added a goal and set up another. Van Riemsdyk, chosen No. 2 overall by the Philadelphia Flyers in last year's NHL draft, is a sophomore at the University of New Hampshire. Bowman is a forward with Spokane of the Western Hockey League.
Matt Rust, of Michigan, and Tyler Johnson, Bowman's teammate with Spokane, also scored. Mitch Wahl chipped in two assists. Thomas McCollum, of Guelph in the OHL, made 16 saves for the win.
"No matter who you are playing, you want to have a good start to the tournament and get the ball rolling," van Riemsdyk said.
