"Not so fast my friend!" Those are the trademark words of ESPN's Lee Corso, who teams with Chris Fowler and Kirk Herbstreit on College GameDay. He'll likely have several opportunities to use his line on hopeful Bobcat football fans this Friday when he's the special guest for Montana State's Annual Triangle Classic Banquet in Great Falls.

Corso was head coach at Louisville, Indiana and Northern Illinois during his college career. As a player, he roomed with actor Burt Reynolds at Florida State University, which may account for his comedic ways. Corso was a four-year letterman in football and baseball at FSU.

The Bobcats just started their spring football practices after several delays due to poor weather and field conditions. They will practice all week and then hold a scrimmage in Great Falls on Saturday at 1. MSU will also practice in Great Falls on Friday night.

The University of Montana is about halfway through its spring drills. All eyes have been on senior quarterback Josh Swogger, who transferred to UM from Washington State. The Grizzlies have had one scrimmage so far and Swogger was 10-for-23 passing for 145 yards. He threw a pair of TD passes and was intercepted once.

The American Legion baseball season is closing in with the Senators and Reps expected to be vastly improved. The Senators will start the season with a doubleheader in Missoula on April 22 and will have their home opener the following day with another twin bill at Kindrick Legion Field against Kalispell at 11 a.m.

The Senators will have 21 home dates and will also host the Keith Sell tournament beginning on June 29. Conference games begin on May 19 with a game in Helena against Bozeman.

The remodeled Multi-Purpose Building at the Lewis and Clark County Fairgrounds made for a more spectator and staff-friendly atmosphere. The workers were able to run calves and steers down a long chute along the side of the arena to eliminate the need for holding pens along the outside of the building.

The arena is now longer and wider allowing the contestants a little more space to work. Calf ropers and team ropers, who often can't get off a throw before they run out of real estate, probably got the most out of the changes.

Montana State is expected to announce its new coach tomorrow. Candidates Brad Huse (University of Montana), Larry Gipson (Northeastern State,Okla.) and Bill Johnson (University of San Francisco) all had public forum sessions last week in Bozeman. MSU athletic director Peter Fields was at the Final Four and championship games over the weekend and is expected to hold a press conference tomorrow to announce his decision.
