The Helena Brewers finally found a way to beat the Orem Owlz, even if it took more than two years to get it done.

Mike Roberts hit an opposite field home run in the seventh inning of the late game, giving the Brewers a 4-3 win to split Friday's doubleheader in Orem, Utah. Helena lost a heartbreaker in the first game in extra innings, 9-8, after the Brewers blew a 7-1 lead and left the door open for a relentless Owlz bunch to come crawling back.

Orem's victory marked the team's 15th straight, breaking the previous franchise record of 14 consecutive wins. But the streak would end there, as Helena picked up its first win over the Owlz since Aug. 17, 2007.

Brewers pitcher Hiram Burgos picked up the win in the second game, allowing five hits and three runs in six innings of work. Robert Currie was credited with the save.

Burgos retired 13 straight batters before giving up an opposite field homer to Michael Wing in the sixth. Wing's long ball tied the game at 3-all, but the Brewers finally bucked the trend of losing to the Owlz after a blown lead.

There were eight home runs total in the doubleheader. Sean Halton, Chad Stang, Roberts and Cameron Garfield all went long for the Brewers, taking advantage of the short porch in right field at Home of the Owlz.

In the first game, Halton led the Brewers at the plate, going 3-for-4 with a double, a home run and five RBIs. The first baseman was 1-for-3 with an RBI in the nightcap. Garfield, playing DH in the second contest after catching in the first, was 2-for-3 in the late game with a homer and RBI.

Jonathan Garrett was strong on the mound for Orem in the first game. The right-hander hurled three innings, giving up just three hits, one run and striking out three to pick up his third win of the season and remain undefeated. David Carpenter got his fourth save after one inning of work.

The Brewers have two more games against the Owlz, with tonight's first pitch scheduled for 7:05 p.m. Nick Bucci is slated to start on the mound for Helena.

DIAMOND NOTES: Helena Brewers second baseman Mike Brownstein was recently promoted to the Single A Wisconsin Timber Rattlers. The 22-year-old currently has a .399 slugging percentage in the minors and already has record two hits with Wisconsin...Helena manager Rene Gonzales was thrown out of the first game after arguing a call with the umpire...Brewers pitcher Chad Robinson hurled just the sixth inning of the first contest, coming out after aggravating a shoulder he's been rehabbing for quite some time.
