BUTTE -- The Townsend girls basketball team scored the first 30 points of the game to outpace Jefferson early in the meeting of District 6B rivals.

Townsend eliminated Jefferson with a 61-41 win at the SouthCentral B divisional tournament.

The Bulldogs used a pressing defense for some easy transition baskets while collecting seven steals in the first quarter, a frame that ended with Townsend in control 19-0. Alyssa Dinsdale and Siobhan Flynn scored six points each to lead Townsend in the first quarter.

Heather Anderson came off the bench to cap the 30-0 run with a 3-point basket with 5 minutes, 37 seconds left in the first half.

Jefferson finally got on the board with two Whitney Giulio free throws at the 5:04 mark.

Giulio finished with an amazing 10 steals as the Panthers finished with 19 as a team, only two fewer than the Bulldogs' total.

The Townsend lead at halftime was 40-7 and many reserves were gathering tournament experience. The Bulldogs took a 50-20 lead into the final period.

Jefferson put up 21 points in the last frame, but the scoring was too little too late. Subs Brittany Johnson and Taylore Ungerman zeroed in for some effective 3-point shooting that whittled what had been a 31-point gap to the final 20-point margin.

Alexa Audet and Anderson finished with 11 points to lead Townsend, and Flynn had seven rebounds. Thirteen Bulldogs played and 11 scored points. Townsend will play in Saturday's consolation bracket.

Jefferson completed a 2-20 season. Jessica Craft worked hard inside for 14 points and 13 rebounds to pace the Panthers efforts. Giulio finished with nine points to go with her 10 steals.
