Saints kick in five for win over Southern Oregon

ASHLAND, Ore. -- The Carroll College Saints soccer team boosted its record to an impressive 9-0 Sunday with a 5-1 victory over Southern Oregon University.

"Southern Oregon was by far the better of the two teams we played this weekend," coach Dave Thorvilson said, referring to the Saints' defeat of Oregon Tech Saturday. "We really played a full 90 minutes, and it really showed what it means to be the No. 6 team in the country."

Only one goal was scored in the first half of the game, and that was at the 21:29 mark by Carroll's Eileen Brennan, assisted by Jenni Annicchiarico.

"Eileen took a great shot near the post upper corner to beat the keeper," Thorvilson said.

Barely into the second half at 47:25 Hannah Young kicked in a soft shot unassisted. At 51:06 Kate Horak followed that up and hit the net assisted by Young.

Emily Werckman scored Southern Oregon's sole point at 51:10 with an assist from Auika Muragin.

The Saints took their time anwering back, but answer they did with an unassisted goal by Annicchiarico at 81:58.

The final goal of the game was netted at the 86:06 mark when Valerie Feltz who dribbled in from far out and shot past the goalie. Brennan got the assist.

The Saints are back at home Friday against Embry Riddle University. Their first Frontier Conference game is Saturday against the University of Great Falls Saturday.
