MSU men's basketball signs JC guard

BOZEMAN (AP) -- Montana State men's basketball coach Brad Huse has announced the signing of Bryan Louff of Marshalltown Community College.

Louff, a 6-0 guard from Santa Monica, Calif., has three years of eligibility remaining after playing one year at the school in Marshalltown, Iowa.

Huse says Louff (LU'-off) will provide depth at the point guard position and that his toughness and maturity will allow him to compete right away.

MSU-Billings signs transfer guard

BILLINGS (AP) -- Montana State-Billings men's basketball coach George Pfeifer has announced the signing of 6-foot-1 point guard DaVell Jackson.

Jackson is transferring from Oklahoma City University, where he averaged 9.7 points per game in 17 games during the 2008-09 season. He will have one season of eligibility at MSU-Billings.

Jackson attended Salt Lake Community College, where he averaged 13.7 points, 4.5 rebounds, 3.3 assists and 1.4 steals per game as a sophomore. SLCC was the runner-up in the National Junior College Tournament during the 2007-08 season. Jackson, who had 19 points, eight rebounds and three assists in the title game, was named the MVP of the Scenic West Conference and of the league's tournament. He also earned first team NJCAA all-America honors.

Jackson averaged 17 points, five rebounds and five assists per game as a senior at El Dorado High School in Las Vegas.

Bozeman, Belgrade Legion coaches resign

BOZEMAN (AP) -- Class AA American Legion baseball teams in Bozeman and Belgrade are looking for new coaches.

Bozeman Bucks coach Mitch Messer and Belgrade Bandits' coach Johnny Graham have recently resigned.

Messer says he will continue to coach the Big Sky Baseball traveling team in the fall, but wants to spend more time with his family. Messer's teams have won 201 games in four seasons, including a state championship in 2008 and a runner-up finish this summer.

Graham, who led Belgrade's move up from Class A to AA, has accepted the job of athletics director at Chief Joseph Middle School in Bozeman.
