LARAMIE, Wyo. -- University of Wyoming head coach Joe Glenn announced in late May that former Carroll College football player and assistant coach Jason Petrino will return to Wyoming as director of football operations.
Glenn said Petrino replaces Casey Glenn, who was recently named the UW tight ends coach. Petrino's duties include coordinating team travel, overseeing the day-to-day administrative operations of the football office and monitoring budgetary and compliance issues relating to Cowboy football.
A native of Kalispell, Petrino was a defensive graduate assistant coach at Wyoming during the 2003 and 2004 seasons.
Petrino has spent the past three seasons as the defensive coordinator at the University of Mary in Bismarck, N.D.
Petrino played at Carroll College from 1995-99, serving as a team captain his senior year. He earned a bachelor of arts degree in sociology from the school in 2002.
Prior to his first stint at Wyoming, Petrino was the defensive backs coach at his alma mater. He coached under current Saints head coach and former Wyoming assistant coach and letterwinner Mike Van Diest. Petrino coached the Fighting Saints defensive backs for three seasons from 1999-2002, winning the 2002 NAIA National Championship and the Frontier Conference Championship all three seasons.

Three walk away from MSU football program
BOZEMAN -- Three Bobcat football players have left the program, Montana State coach Rob Ash announced Wednesday.
Defensive lineman Brandon Hoffenbacker, offensive lineman Chris Smith, and linebacker Denis Speights have each been removed from Montana State's roster. Smith (sr., Laurel) started all 11 games at offensive guard for MSU last fall. Hoffenbacker (jr., Kalispell) also has starting experience, while Speights (jr., Costa Mesa, CA) was a reserve who missed most of last season with an injury.
"I wish Brandon, Denis and Chris the best of luck in whatever the future brings them," said Ash, who declined further comment.
