Morrow places second at BSC championships
Nick Morrow, a senior pole vaulter for the Montana State Bobcats track and field team, recently placed runner-up at the Big Sky Conference Indoor Championships in Flagstaff, Ariz. Morrow, who entered the meet with a previous best of 16-feet-2, cleared 16-4¾ after a pole change for a personal record and the second-place trophy. He easily made the height on his second attempt. The bar was then raised to 16-10½, and after another pole change, the Capital High alum said he almost made a clearance on his second attempt.
"I had some good height (at 16-10½), but didn't quite get deep enough penetration in the box," Morrow explained.
MSU stablemate Bobby Biskupiak, a sophomore, made 15-5 to place ninth. Morrow and Biskupiak are former CHS Bruin teammates. The Bobcat men finished sixth in the Big Sky indoor team championships, while the Lady Bobcats took fourth. Other local athletes competing for Montana State include Scott Peterson, Ashley Kropp, Lily Peterson and Katie Gilboy.
At Capital, Morrow took second at the 2004 Western AA Divisionals, and then went 14-6 to place third at the State meet in Missoula.
The 6-1, 195-pounder is majoring in business marketing at MSU. Nick is the son of Tim Morrow and Jeri (Burner) Matthews. Tim was a stellar football player and a State long jump and triple jump champion for Helena High in the late 1960s, while Jeri was a standout trackster and hoopster for the Capital Bruin ladies in the mid-1970s.

Arsenal U-14 boys open season with split
The Arsenal U-14 Blue soccer team opened the season at Siebel Fields this weekend where they took on teams from Great Falls and Lewistown. Down at the half to the Great Falls Royal team, the Blue rallied on a goal by Carlos O'Leary. Great Falls scored a second goal, and O'Leary scored again off a corner kick by Nathan Patterson. A final goal by Great Falls resulted in a 3-2 loss.
In their second game, the U-14 boys dominated a game multi-age team from Lewistown. Defenders Casey Jacobson, Tanner Staley, Ty Gerth, Logan Monday, Sam Rowe, and Chase Juneau refused to allow the Lewistown offense any easy shots leaving Keeper Connor Fitzpatrick with just two saves. Goals were scored by Jesse Bostrom, Braden Wall, Cameron Betancourt, Logan Colegrove, O'Leary, and Patterson. Anthony Mendez had an assist.
Hoping for warmer weather, the U-14 boys head to Livingston next weekend.
