ESPN The Magazine recently named University of Montana senior volleyball captain Jade Roskam as a second team all-distrcit 7 selection.

A Helena High alum, Roskam is a three-time Academic all-Big Sky recipient at Montana. A mathematics major, she sports a 3.97 GPA. Last year she earned the UM President's Award for producing the highest GPA for two consecutive semesters.

Roskam is currently averaging 1.37 kills and 2.47 digs for the Grizzlies.

The 5-foot-10 spiker is a four-year starter for Montana. Last year, Roskam was UM's second leading hitter and defender, averaging 2.75 kills per game and 2.32 digs per game, respectively. Against Sacramento State, she posted a career-high 22 kills.

"Jade has quickness and strength and an ability to read what's going on, which allows us to use her in a variety of positions," said UM coach Jerry Wagner on the Grizzlies' Web site. "She is a dominant athlete who has taken her abilities and turned them into a high-level volleyball player.

"Jade's desire and commitment in helping Montana volleyball to be the best in the conference shows up every single minute she's around."

At Helena High, she was a two-time first team all-stater her junior and senior years. Roskam -- whose grandfather is hockey legend Gordie Howe -- established several volleyball records for the Bengals.

In track, she captured the Class AA 400-meter run in 2005. Her time of 57.42 is the second-fastest in school history. Roskam was also part of the 2004 Lady Bengals' 400 state relay championship.
