BILLINGS -- Four local area cowboys and cowgirls, led by Helena's Cally Goyins, captured championships at the NRA Montana FairRodeo last weekend.
Goyins won the breakaway roping, clocking a time of 2.2 seconds. She collected $1,274 in prize money for her efforts at the MetraPark arena. Helena went 1-2 in the event, as another Capital City cowgirl, Cee Cee Tryan, placed runnerup. Tryan posted a 2.5 to garner a $1,019 paycheck.
Joining Goyins in the winner's circle were Quentin McCauley of Boulder, Lindsay Knaff of Winston, and Roddy Cameron of Townsend.
McCauley won the bareback with a ride of 85 points, to earn $573. Knaff pocketed $1,329 for the quickest barrel race time of 13.98 seconds, and Cameron copped the steer wrestling, throwing a 4.1, which was worth $1,029.
Other Helena athletes to finish in the top-three at the Magic City rodeo were Annie Novotny, third in the barrels (14.16, $854); Walt Anseth, third in steer wrestling (4.3, $674); and Clay Tryan, third in team roping (5.3, $738).
