DETROIT - Marian Hossa knew if the Red Wings kept shooting, the puck would finally go in.
And it did, on a shot by Hossa early in the third period that gave Detroit a 2-1 win over Anaheim on Monday night. The Red Wings outshot the Ducks 47-16.
Johan Franzen also scored for Detroit and Chris Osgood made 15 saves.
"We tried to stay patient. We were, I think, all over them and we outshoot them," Hossa said. "It was just a matter of time when the one squeezed in and it squeezed in and tight game. We did lots of more shots."
Chris Kunitz scored Anaheim's goal and Jean-Sebastien Giguere stopped 37 shots before being removed after two periods. He has a history of groin injuries and was beginning to cramp up.
"Decided after two periods that he had seen enough rubber for one game and not take a chance," Anaheim coach Randy Carlyle said.
Predators 2, Sabres 0
BUFFALO, N.Y. (AP) - Pekka Rinne made 30 saves for his first career shutout, Jason Arnott snapped a tie in the third period and Nashville beat the Sabres.
J.P. Dumont also scored and had an assist for the Predators (12-10-2), who won for the third time in five games.
Ryan Miller made 25 saves for the Sabres (11-10-3), who lost their second straight. Miller also had his personal three-game winning streak stopped.
The Sabres played without captain Craig Rivet, who was scratched just hours before gametime because of an upper body injury. But Buffalo did get forward Ales Kotalik back after he missed seven games because of a hamstring injury.
Blue Jackets 3, Canucks 2
COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) - Kristian Huselius scored off a pass from Rick Nash with 4:44 left and the Blue Jackets got their first win this season after allowing the first goal.
Columbus came in 0-6-3 when the opponent scored first, becoming the last team in the NHL to win after falling behind 1-0.
Rookie Steve Mason improved to 6-2-1 in his first professional season, stopping 29 shots.
Fredrik Modin and Andrew Murray added goals for Columbus. Nash had two assists and Huselius had a helper to go with his winner.
Avalanche 6, Wild 5
ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) - Paul Stastny had two goals and an assist, and the low-scoring Avalanche broke out for a win over Minnesota.
Marek Svatos, David Jones, T.J. Hensick and Milan Hejduk also scored for Colorado, which entered the game as the second lowest scoring team in the Western Conference. The six goals were a season high for the Avalanche.
The Avalanche (12-12-0) had a 20-6 advantage in shots midway through the second period and capitalized on several Wild turnovers and miscues to build an insurmountable lead.
Hejduk, Hensick and Stastny scored three straight goals in the second off Minnesota turnovers to give Colorado a 6-3 lead.
Maple Leafs 3, Kings 1
LOS ANGELES (AP) - Matt Stajan and Mikhail Grabovski scored power-play goals less than 1½ minutes apart early in the third period and Vesa Toskala made 32 saves, leading the Toronto Maple Leafs to a 3-1 victory over the Los Angeles Kings on Monday night.
Alexander Frolov scored for Los Angeles on the first shot of the game, but the Kings fell apart after staggered tripping penalties to Sean O'Donnell and captain Dustin Brown.
Stajan tied the score with 17:51 to play during a goalmouth scramble while goaltender Jason LaBarbera was caught flatfooted and off-balance in the crease. The goal came with 3 seconds left on a two-man advantage, and Grabovski got the go-ahead goal on a perfect centering pass from John Mitchell with 29 seconds left on Brown's penalty.
