Carroll College basketball coach Gary Turcott announced today that Montana's "Gatorade Player of the Year" Andy Garland, has accepted a scholarship and will play for the Saints men's basketball team after graduating from Missoula Sentinel High School.
At Sentinel, Garland played for coach Craig Matosich, and compiled a 20-3 record this past season. Garland, a four-year starter at Sentinel, was a three-time Class AA all-state selection and was recently named MVP of the Highline Invitational Tournament.
Garland is a strong, 6-foot-5 power forward with skills to play either on the perimeter or near the basket.
He averaged 19 points and 11 rebounds per game, leading the Spartans to a runner up finish at the Class AA state tournament.
"We are delighted that Andy has committed to play for the Saints," Turcott said. "There is no doubt that he will be ready to play and contribute as a freshman and will really help us next year."
Carroll has already announced the signing of Billings West point guard Casey Rogers who was the AA state tournament MVP as well as Class A all-staters Jim Mee of Libby and Daniel Pearson of Billings Central.
Garland, the son of Tim and Dee Garland, was highly recruited by in-state and out of state colleges and universities.
"Carroll always competes at a high level in an exciting atmosphere," Garland said. "I was drawn to Carroll's successful basketball tradition and the outstanding education that the school offers."
