Great West wins City D softball crown
Great West Engineering (Audio Video Solutions-Absolutely Nuts-Lehrkinds) won the Helena Softball Association men's D League City-District slowpitch tournament championship Sunday at Batch Fields, defeating Ball Dawgs (Overtime Trucking-Montana Nugget-Capital Custom Upholstery) 15-0 in the finals.
Making up the Great West roster are John Allen, Chuck Price, Jim Tilon, Clint Anderson, Joel Pilcher, Dan Karlin, Adam Karlin, Anthony Connole, Scott Connole, Jeremiah Theys, Caleb Spangler, Sean McLaughlin, Jake Westerhold and Derek Carley.
The Brewhouse placed third. The top six placers in the tourney qualify for the State Mens D Tournament in Missoula, Aug. 7-9.
Helenans participate in Wyo. Senior Olympics
Four women and one man returned after competing in the Wyoming Senior Olympics in Rock Springs, Wyo., July 23-25, hauling home 66 medals in tennis, table tennis, track and field and swimming events.
Charlotte Sanddahl, 86, won 13 gold medals in swimming events.
Recent Helena Sports Hall of Famer Flora Wong, 80, added 18 gold medals to her collection while participating in track and field and swimming events.
Lupercio (Lupi) Rangell, 80, played table tennis, tennis and swam. He won seven gold, two silver and one bronze medal.
Peggy Collins, 63, competed in track and field, and swimming where she won five gold and seven silver medals.
The youngster of the group, Gloria Lambertz, 56, won 13 gold medals in swimming and track and field events, including the football throw in her age group.
