The Carroll College football team will have their final fall scrimmage of the season today at around 10:30 a.m. in Nelson Stadium.

Practice is expected to begin around 10 a.m. and the players will face off after a short warmup and stretch.

Head coach Mike Van Diest said that the Purple and White sides will concentrate on facing off against Azusa Pacific's offensive and defensive schemes.

Carroll hosts the Cougars in their season opener Aug. 29, which is also the No. 2-ranked Saints' only nonconference game of the year.

Carroll beat them 41-22 in the 2008 season opener when junior quarterback Gary Wagner tore the defense apart. The starting quarterback, who will return to the helm after injury cut his season short in the second game last year, went 16-for-25 passing for 245 yards and three touchdowns. He also led the team with 82 yards rushing.

He could torment the Saints' scout squad, which will try to replicate Azusa's complicated 3-5-3 defense.

The Cougars also run a spread offense.
