The Capital and Helena High softball teams will see their final action before playoffs begin next week when they host Billings Skyview and Billings West today at 1 and 3 p.m. in non-conference contests.
The Bruins will face Skyview first at Northwest Park, while the Bengals play West at Frank Mihelish Field.
Both Queen City teams are coming off the final crosstown match of the year, which the Bruins won 1-0 Tuesday to finish a sweep of Helena this season. The win also clinched the regular season Western AA Conference championship for Capital. The Bengals have a lock on third place in the league heading into the postseason.
Billings West is coming off a big 23-1 victory over Bozeman on Tuesday. The Golden Bears are 13-6 overall this season. Skyview, in a recent tripleheader with C.M. Russell, went 1-2.
This will be the first time the Bengals and Bruins meet the Billings squads this season.
Football
The Helena Titans host the Great Falls Gladiators today at 1 p.m. at Vigilante Stadium on a day when military men and women will be honored for serving our country.
In honor of Military Appreciation Day, service members with Military ID will get in free. Students will get in for $2 by showing a student ID and admission for adults is $5.
The Titans have had a rough season so far, winning just one game this year, while dropping four. The Titans kicked off the season by knocking off the league favorite but haven't put a touchdown on the board since.
Today's opponent, however, is undefeated this season at 5-0 and the Gladiators have their sights set on the championship.
Baseball
The Helena Senators will head out to Belgrade today to take on the Bandits in a doubleheader scheduled to start at 5 p.m. The Senators (7-5) are streaking right now, having won seven of their last eight.
The Bandits (6-6) are relatively new in the AA and have steadily improved since moving up from A in 2007. The young team is looking to right the ship after being swept by the Kalispell Lakers last weekend.
The Helena Reps have four straight games against another tough Great Falls opponent. They will host the Sparkies today starting at 1 p.m. inside the friendly confines of Kindrick Legion Field. Helena (6-5) will go up against a tough Sparkies squad that dismantled the Great Falls Stallions A squad 23-7 Wednesday night. Then on Sunday, the Reps will travel to Great Falls for another twin bill with the Sparkies.
