Steele to be inducted into golf hall of fame

MISSOULA -- University of Montana golf coach Joanne Steele will be inducted into the Montana State Women's Golf Association Hall of Fame next month.

Steele, who is being recognized for her success as a player and a coach, will be honored during the women's state amateur tournament July 23-25 in Missoula.

Steele was the 2001 state amateur champion and the 2002 and 2003 runner-up. She recently completed her 13th season coaching the Griz women. She led UM to the 2006 Big Sky Conference championship and a spot in the NCAA tournament.

Steele, the former Joanne Roberts, golfed at Capital High and then at Jacksonville University, where she finished fourth at the Sun Belt Conference tournament in 1992 and was runner-up in 1993.
