Shade Theriault won the 100- and 200-meter dashes to propel the Townsend boys to a fifth-place finish at the Southern B divisional track meet in Bozeman on Saturday.

The Bulldogs finished with 47 points while the girls squad finished with 38, also good for fifth.

Jefferson High's teams both fell to 15th place.

Theriault finished the 100 in a time of 11.37 to edge out Justin Smith of Broadus by .01 seconds. His 200 time of 22.99 easily put him above the rest.

"He was ready to compete today," said Townsend head coach Travis Rauh about Theriault. "He performed at a very high level against some of the best competition in the state."

Teammate Kyland Santos also picked up an individual win, taking the discus with a heave of 146-feet, 7-inches. He placed second in the shot put.

"(His discus throw) puts him probably about fifth of the state. The Western side has a number of good throwers," Rauh said. "Probably the most impresssive thing about Kyland this year is how consistent he's been."

Other Townsend boys that qualified for the state meet were Jager Warner (1,600 and 3,200), Boone Helm (300 hurdles) and both relay squads.

Jefferson's Jonathan Olsen scored the lone point for his squad. With an eighth place finish in the 800 (2:06.94) he will make it to state.

On the girls side, Delaware Hansen and Lynsie Williams both qualified in the same three events for the Bulldogs. Hansen finished second in the long, triple and high jump events, while Williams scored in the top six of each.

"Lynsie's definitely capable of jumping with the better jumpers in the state. She didn't have the best of days, but she's good at rebounding," Rauh said. "Delaware is really starting to come into her own. She has a good attitude when going out and competing and this is probably the best divisional she's ever had."

Teammates Jordan Audet (1,600 and 3,200) and Kelsey Wickens (100) also advanced to state in their respective events along with both relays.

Jefferson will send four athletes to the state meet. Brittany Johnson will head in the 1,600, Jordan Powers in the high jump, Miranda Clark in the javelin and Emily Schroeck in the pole vault.

Winning the boys team title was Manhattan in the boys with 99 points, followed by Huntley Project (70.5) and Colsrip (57). Three Forks won the girls title with 84.5 points while Colstrip (76) and Whithall (59) followed in suit.

"For the most part, I'm pleased with our performance. We were a little bit inconsistent, and I'll take responsibility for that first," Rauh said. "Hopefully this week we'll practice and do all the right things it takes to be successful."
