Westminster advances to first title game, will play Lewis-Clark

SALT LAKE CITY n The Westminster women's basketball team advanced to the Frontier Conference Playoffs championship game with an 88-55 win over Montana Western on Friday night.

It is the first-ever championship appearance for the Griffins in school history.

No. 15 Westminster (26-5) used a 51-28 second half to put away the Bulldogs. The Griffins had four players in double figures, led by 16 from Dani Evans. Evans was the leading scorer for the second straight game and had four baskets from 3-point land.

Keshia Catten had seven of her 13 points in the opening half including the first four points of the game.

Westminster shot 49.1% and had an assist on 24 of the 26 total field goals. The Griffins forced Western into 18 turnovers, resulting in 27 Westminster points.

The two leading scorers for the Bulldogs were held below 10 points as Elisa Leader and Shannon Evans had nine points apiece. Evans finished with 10 assists and eight rebounds while Leader had five rebounds and two assists.

Lewis-Clark 69,

Rocky Mountain 43

LEWISTON, Idaho n The Lewis-Clark State College women's basketball team held Rocky Mountain scoreless for an 11-minute stretch in the first half en route to a 69-43 win.

Lewis-Clark also held the Bears to just 17.6 percent shooting from the field and forced 32 turnovers on Friday night at the LCSC Activity Center.

The Warriors will make their eighth Frontier Conference championship game in the past 10 years. LCSC will play for the title on Monday night when it travels to Salt Lake City to meet top-seeded Westminster at 7 p.m.

The winner of that game will earn an automatic berth to the national tournament later this month in Jackson, Tenn.
