Bighorn Peewee A team competes in Butte
The Bighorn Peewee A team participated in the 2nd Annual Brent Roeber Memorial Peewee Hockey Tournament last weekend in Butte. In pool play, the Bighorns fell to the Bozeman Ice Dogs 4-3 on Friday night. On Saturday morning, the Bighorns tied the Idaho Falls Eagles 3-3, but later fell to the Missoula Bruins 4-3. On Sunday morning, the Bighorns defeated the Idaho Falls Eagles 6-5.
Ryan Beck and Myles O'Reilly did an outstanding job protecting the net over the weekend.
Scoring for the Bighorns during the tournament were Matt Mohar (2G/3A), CJ Holland (4G), Spencer Avelsgard (2G/2A), Miles Miller (1G/3A), Logan Kruse (3G), Troy Arntson (3A), Nick Moser (1G/1A), Benjamin Sullivan (1G ), and Craig Palmer(1G), Johnathan Mahoney, Dylan Voeller, Jerico Crouse, Ethan Wellenstein and Kaleb Greenwood contributed to the team effort.
The Peewee A team is sponsored by Bulkley Electric and American Chemet. The team is coached by Larry Urban, Jeremy Crouse and Dennis O'Reilly. The Bighorns face the Missoula Bruins and the Bozeman Ice Dogs next weekend at the Helena Ice Arena.
Mite A hockey team wins twice
The Helena Bighorn Mite A team, sponsored by AP Sassano, Mountain View Eyecare and Bob's Valley Market, played two games this past weekend against the Havre Hawks, winning them both. With scores of 10-6 and 10-4, the Bighorns controlled the games with a high powered offense enabling 8 of the 12 team members to score.
Scoring for the Bighorns were Justin Durbin (6 goals/1 assist), Colin Sassano (5 goals/2 assists), Jacob Sodja ( 4 goals/1 assist), Kaden Lindberg (2 goal/1 assist), Hayden Miller (2 goals/1 assist) Shamus Bartmess (1goal/1 assist), Ryan Arntson (1 assist) and Taryn Holland (1 assist). Nicodemus Berbos, Nolan Cunningham and Clayton Voeller provided an impenetrable defense, while Justin Sullivan kept the puck out of the net.
East Valley cagers end season well
The East Valley Middle School boys basketball teams ended their season last week with impressive records. The 8th grade boys basketball team won the Clancy Tournament last weekend defeating Montana City and Clancy. In the past two years this boys team has gone 22-8. This season the Tigers went 12-3 losing to Deer Lodge, Butte Central, and an HYBA team. Congratulations to a great season 8th graders. The 8th grade team consists of Tevin Agtarap, Casey George, Casey Guse, Ricky Hamlin, Garrett Hanson, John McCartney, Aaron Muscarelli, Jeremy Nettleton, Tanner Noel, Will Nordahl, Jesse Rogers, Logan Stahly, Jordan Terry, and Tyler Wiedeman. This year's 8th grade team was coached by Kevin Van Nice.
The 7th grade team ended their season last week defeating Boulder. This year's 7th grade team's record was an impressive 13-2 with their only two losses to Montana City. This year's squad also won the tournament in East Helena defeating Montana City in the championship. Congratulations 7th graders. This year' s team included Matt Barker, T.J. Bomar, Tucker Erickson, Jarin Gassett, Klancy Jones, Tom Lund, Levi Merkel, Isaak Miller, Spencer Petersen, Connor Raymond, Taylor South, Colter Wilcock, and Chase Williams. The 7th graders were coached by Ty Ridgeway.
