Saturday was a pretty good day to be a Novotny.
Sisters Annie and Bailee Novotny of Helena highlighted the first day of the Helena high school rodeo at the Lewis and Clark County Fairgrounds.
Annie rode a 13.36 to an easy win in the barrel racing, while Bailee came through with an overwhelming 2.75-second run in the breakaway roping.
"I got out real good and my horse worked real hard," Bailee, a senior, said of her start on "Lacy" a six-year-old. "We might've pulled up a little bit at the barrier."
She admitted not a lot can go wrong in that amount of time.
Bailee also took seventh in the barrels.
Annie blew away the field on her eight-year-old, "Kiss," but things were a bit more difficult than they looked.
"I lost both stirrups and thought I'd fall off," she said. "I had to hold on for dear life."
Annie credited her horse for not losing its cool.
Elsewhere, a pair of Browning cowboys dominated the rough stock.
AJ St. Goddard and Chazz Racine won the bareback and saddle bronc, respectively. St. Goddard got 75 points for his eight-second ride, while Racine picked 76 as one of just two competitors to make the count.
Bridger Chambers was around the winner's circle a lot as he took home the calf roping win and finished third in team roping with partner Jessica Picchettie.
Picchetti, meanwhile, won the goat tying, was fifth in barrels and tenth in breakaway.
Levi Guenzler of Ronan won the steer wrestling in 6.12 seconds. Shaun Halko won the bull riding with a 73.
