The Carroll College women's soccer team ended their road trip to New York with a split on Tuesday as the No. 22 Saints (6-4-1) dropped their contest with Houghton 1-0.
Houghton (7-1-2) scored after a shot fell at the feet of players near the goal. The ball bounced between forwards and defenders a few times before finally going in, said Saints head coach Dave Thorvilson.
Carroll, meanwhile, had a few opportunities but couldn't capitalize.
"We had two or three pretty good looks, but we just missed the hit on the ball," he said.
The Saints were playing one day after beating Roberts Wesleyan 2-1. Carroll was supposed to play Houghton on Saturday but the game was postponed when the Saints had problems with their flight.
Despite the quick turnaround, Thorvilson said the teams were pretty evenly matched adn the Saints looked strong.
"We actually played 70 really good minutes of soccer and 20 minutes of pretty solid soccer," he said.
The Saint return home for a matchup with Southwestern College (Ariz.) at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday. Southwestern (0-8-0) is playing its first year of NAIA soccer.
